No 9/11 Disciplinary Review for Former CIA Director George Tenet, says Peter Goss.

Contrary to the recommendations from CIA's internal watchdog (Inspector General John Heglerson), the current CIA director Peter Goss will not order disciplinary review for the former CIA director George Tenet.

Would it not be rather helpful to look into who goofed up -leading to the systemic intelligence failure preceding 9/11 -and learn from it?

CIA Inspector General Mr. Heglerson has recommended that Mr. Goss convene formal panels to look into specific actions by Tenet and other current and former officials. Peter Goss now says doing so may make it difficult for the Agency to gain/retain quality personnel going forward.

Of course, Mr. Goss, who would want to work at an agency that holds its employees accountable for their actions? Having a policy that gives free pass to those that doze off during their Watch certainly makes the Agency's package of "perks and benefits" impressive, but is it in this great nation's best interest?

At best, this is akin to sticking head under the sand waiting for the storm to pass, and at worst, this seems to be a self-serving approach that says we don't find faults with our own -regardless of the consequences thereof.

Incidentally, it was Mr. Goss who, as Chairman of House Intelligence Committee, had requested Mr. Heglerson's investigation. Now Mr. Goss seems to suggest we are better off not looking in "there" because "those who are still with us are among the finest we have." It sure warms our hearts to learn that all bad apples are now gone, and now we have only the finest watching out for our great nation. Thank you, Mr Goss, if you say so.

Let us hope that Mr. Goss and his finest at the Agency have not forgotten the fact that those that refuse to learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them -time and again.
